Tip: Time, time & patience.

What's the key to the best and most unique wedding photos? Time, time, and more time, along with patience and understanding for romantic formals. Give at least one hour total for brdie/groom formals. And this can be spread throughout the entire wedding day.

Just wanted to throw that out there as a reminder.

Tip: "The camera hates me!" - No, it doesn't.

Please please don't ever say this. It's a jinx. If you tell me right off that you are not good with the camera or that you NEVER take a good photo: Guess what? It may just happen. Not because it's true but because it makes me nervous when you say that and bad things produce more bad things. Don't tell me this and be yourself, I bet you'll change your mind once you see the photos after. I never truly believe anyone when they say this anyways because everyone is beautiful in their own way and if you don't believe me, ask your fiancé and your parents.

New Canon PowerShot SD990-IS with color accent

The new Canon Canon PowerShot SD990-IS with color accent: You know—the black and white photos with one color pulled out—I know, it's exciting stuff!
Although this is considered just another point-n-shoot for the average photographer, I still love that Canon is trying to do the "color accent" within the camera. Maybe someday they will improve it enough for an SLR. Even then I would be weary using it solely because I still like to have the original color image to work with. From all the reviews I read, it mentions that it keeps an original and the color accent but I'm not sure if that means a full color version or not. And, when you choose the one color you do want to stand out, it pulls that same or similar color out from every area of the photo, which is not always the end result you want or could also look spotty. At the same time it can look really cool and cut down tons of editing if it ends up right. So, until Canon puts all of us professionals out of business, use it for fun and here are the search results I found on example photos taken by others on Flickr. I find the camera a bit pricey for not being an SLR but it does look like a pretty good camera overall.

A Moving Sonogram

This is literally a moving sonogram in so many ways. I am so excited for our long time family friend Michelle (a.k.a. Micy) and her family. It's been a long road for her in life and I just can't express to you how much we are all so proud of her.
With that said I wanted to share her not so ordinary sonogram, this is the first time I've ever seen one that is a video and not just a photo. E-mailable and lovable. Enjoy!

NEEDED A MOMENT: For those of you who voluntarily feel the need to constantly correct my grammar and misspellings on my website/blog/poems/essays/past facebook page/emails/chicken scratch notes/previous ads, I got one sentence for ya: Go find something better to do with your time because I don't give a flying !$%# and you can shove all your perfect everything and stick it where the sun don't shine. I never claimed to be a writer, don't care to be, that's why I'm a photographer and designer instead. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
BEST MOMENT: Watching a chipmunk stay in our bird house for hours upon hours, I think he found a new home! Or maybe we just have some damn good wild bird seed.

Hibernating Trends: Table Number Photos

Current and future engagement session couples: I'm up for this if you are!

I came across this idea and I love it so much I had to share!
During your engagement photo session, you hold up your pre-made numbers, one number per different photo and print for your table numbers. Use frames or make your own stationary squares for the background.

Here is a link to show you how:
www.heidzillas.com/2009/04/09/phototablenumbers

To spin off of this idea I also came up with the idea that we can also add the number digitally after your photo session. You pick the photos, colors, the style of font you'd like and the numbers you want for each. Or I add the numbers randomly to the photos you chose. They will be included on your disc of photos separately so you still have the originals. You'll be able to print them at what ever size you'd like. For example:

Let me know if this is something you'd like to do and I can include this in your engagement session.

Angel Statue for Chipper

I finally found the perfect statue to put on Chipper's grave. It's an angel holding a bird feeder or can hold water for a birdie bath. I think he would've liked it too, he was all about the seed findings.

I was organizing my wedding contracts tonight and noticed a folder that I have has bites taken out of the corner. I broke down in tears remembering that Chipper used to do that to all paper he came in contact with. I thought about how I used to get so mad when he'd do it to important papers, but now, I miss it. I miss his sounds, singing and even the things that made me irritated.

Remember to enjoy everything, good and bad. Because you may just wish to have those moments back again.

Tip: If you have something really unique for your wedding day, let me know...

Sometimes it's obvious but every once in a while there are some things I don't see or know about. One time I had a bride with "I do" jeweled on the bottom of her shoes. I LOVED THIS. But I didn't find out until the end of the night when she threw off her shoes from her tired dancing feet. Although I still got some cool photos of the shoes, if I had known earlier, it really could have made some really cool portrait photos or picking up the bride photos or twirling with feet out photos. I've also seen special necklaces, charms or passed on items such as veils. Things I may not know about. This also goes for special events planned that are beyond your average wedding events, such as a special birthday cake for a guest or an anniversary gift to the grandparents, those sorts of things can help your photographer in so many ways.

My missing umbrella ella ella...

It wasn't until we were standing outside a funeral home last Wednesday in the rain when I realized that I must have left my hard-to-find rainbow umbrella at one of the weddings. I hate too-late discoveries like that. I believe the Hall of Springs took new ownership when I let them borrow it during the Bagramian wedding when escorting the wedding party and guests in. Darn it anyhow, and I even said to the guy, "please bring it back to me or I will forget it!" Or it could have maybe been at the Tritico Wedding at the Appel Inn, which in that case I am definitely not getting it back. I know I didn't have it during their portraits session or ceremony, so I really can't be 100% sure.
I am extremely bummed only because it was so hard to find this rainbow umbrella, I mean, months of searching. I searched walmart, target, you name it. And the ones online were too expensive. Worst of all, I can't remember where I ended up finding it!
It all started with the West wedding when the limo driver pulled out this same type of umbrella and it's one of my business signature shots. Ever since I looked for one similar to use at other weddings and even got requests for it. I used it 3 times since and obviously when I really needed it for an everyday purpose, it wasn't there. I've decided not to get another one and just let the random umbrella at any given wedding set it's purpose. So-long rainbow umbrella ella ella... besides, most used sarcasm with the rainbow color for a different meaning anyhow. If you ever go to the Hall of Springs or Appel Inn on a rainy day, and you see this umbrella (in photo on right) take comfort in where it came from. :)MY CURRENT PROJECT: Finishing Linder Wedding
